Professor of Music Theory

I joined the Capital University faculty in 1996. I teach Musicianship, Music Technology, Composition, Rock & Roll courses, and Keyboard (piano, organ, and class keyboard). My music education focused on Music Theory and Composition with particular interests in music perception and cognition. I've always had strong interests in a variety of music technologies which probably stems from my experiences as a synth player. As a keyboardist –pianist, organist, and electronic keyboards–and vocalist, my musical performances have enjoyed a diversity of traditional and American popular musical styles. My interests in electronic keyboards and composition extend to sound synthesis, sampling, and computers. I am an advocate for music technology in music education and an active member in the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI), and serve on the Board of Directors for the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME). My work with our students includes the priveledge of advising the Epsilon Phi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In 1995 I was appointed Executive Director of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda, the only national Music Honor Society. In addition to years of performing in a variety of musical styles and venues, I have enjoyed serving the Lord as a Music Director–organist and choir director--for more than 30 years. Most of my "free" time revolves around my family, their activities, and our community. My wife, Ann, is a teacher and a strong advocate of inclusion-based education for children with special needs–both the advanced and the handicapped. Our adult children are pursuing their professional interests.
